CAN A SINGLE WORD REALLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE?
How I ditched the usual lame New Year’s resolutions and turned a simple practice into a game-changer…
Hey Friend –
As 2002 came to a close, I was steeped in internal questioning. I was depressed. And I was exhausted after many months on the road as a touring musician. I couldn’t bear the thought of pounding myself with resolutions for the coming year.
So I did something different.
I chose a word to guide me during the year – [DELIGHT] – instead of setting resolutions to fix my many flaws that were all too obvious to me.
That year, my depression slowly diminished and my music career took off.
A few years later, when I knew it was time to enter online territories that made most musicians suspicious, I used my word – [PIONEER] – to propel me courageously forward. I experienced my first six-figure year as a musician. I also got the idea for the business I now own.
In a more recent year, as the owner of a fast-growing company, things were moving at a blinding pace.
Feeling out of my league as a CEO and Founder, I was on the verge of making decisions just to please people who seemed smarter than me…rapid-fire choices based on money fears as our overhead grew.
I chose a word to help me access my own wisdom – [WITHIN] – and found the strength to design programs and events to be exactly as I wanted them, even with the looming threat of making less money. Instead, profits went up that year.
Here’s the thing.
Choosing a word isn’t magic. None of these results happened because I picked a word and then sat back and binge-watched Netflix. Quite the opposite.
I chose the word and let the energy of that word guide and shape me. I engaged with it. I took actions based on it.
Now, hundreds of thousands of people have done the same. I know this because in 2006, I wrote a blog post to share this practice with my readers. That blog post took off. And now Word-of-the-Year is a topic on thousands of blogs out there.
People stop me on the street in my city to share their words. When I’m at a party, people who read my blog post tell me stories about their word. I get emails and DM’s sharing Word-of-the-Year success stories. People send me photos of jewelry they’ve had made for their word, pictures of where they posted their word. Even tattoos.
In fact, here’s a Facebook message I just got last week:
Word-of-the-Year has become a game-changer for many.
I certainly wasn’t the first to do it or come up with it. But I may have been one of the first to share it. I don’t know. I just know it works – not just for me, but for many others like me.
Let me introduce myself.
I’m Christine Kane. I’m CEO and founder of a super cool coaching company called Uplevel You. We serve over 100,000 people in the Uplevel tribe, and thousands of them are students and clients. Before I built this business, I was a songwriter and performer and made 7 CD’s and an award-winning DVD during my career.
So yeah, I’ve lived this stuff.
And I designed a cool process to help you get clear before you just start grabbing words. (Admit it – you were already doing that, right? 🙂 ) It’s my Word-of-the-Year Discovery Tool. And yup, it’s a free download.
